About XAT

XLRI Jamshedpur conducts the Xavier Aptitude Test on behalf of XAMI. The XAT 2027 website states that the test is on Sunday 3 January 2027, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and the FAQ on the same site says the duration is three hours. The test is in English. Scores are used by XLRI and by other institutes that choose to accept them; each institute sets its own later process.

The pattern table on the XAT 2027 website lists four sections: Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning (about 26 questions), Decision Making (about 21), Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation (about 28), and General Knowledge (20, of which 8 are static and 12 are current affairs). The first three share 170 minutes. General Knowledge is shown at 10 minutes. The total on that table is about 95 questions and 180 minutes. The instructions for the 4 January 2026 test printed the same four counts as the paper's own, and they are the counts used here. Those instructions say each question is a multiple-choice question with five options and one correct choice. They do not describe a typed answer.

Inside the 170 minutes, the 2026 instructions say a candidate may move among the three sections. When that timer reaches zero, Part 1 locks and General Knowledge begins for 10 minutes. The 2027 website says there is no sectional time limit and that a candidate can switch sections. Its FAQ says the same, and adds that all sections are accessible throughout the exam. The pattern table still prints 170 minutes against the first three sections and 10 against General Knowledge. This practice test follows that two-part timing: one clock for the first three sections, then a separate clock for General Knowledge.

The 2027 pattern page says each question carries 1 mark, a wrong answer costs 0.25, and a candidate may leave 8 questions unattempted without a further penalty. Each unattempted question after those eight costs 0.10. General Knowledge has no negative marking. It does not count toward the percentile or the cutoff, and the same page says XLRI uses it in selection for XLRI programmes. There is no essay on the 2027 pattern page. The site's note on the 2025 pattern said essay writing had been removed from the test and would be taken during XLRI's selection process. The 2026 instructions likewise list no essay. This practice test does not include an essay.

A published XAT result is a percentile, which needs the whole cohort. The 2027 website describes the test as a single slot and says there is no normalisation. This practice test has no cohort, so it reports raw marks: 1 for a right answer and 0.25 off for a wrong answer in the first three sections, from a low of −18.75 to 75. A blank scores 0 here. The live test's extra 0.10 for each unattempted question after eight depends on how many questions were left blank across the part, which this screen cannot apply. General Knowledge is reported beside that total, from 0 to 20, and is not added in.
