About CAT

The Indian Institutes of Management use the Common Admission Test as one part of admission to their postgraduate and doctoral management programmes. IIM Indore is conducting CAT 2026. The press release of 26 July 2026 sets the test for Sunday 29 November 2026, in three sessions. The only CAT website named in that release is https://iimcat.ac.in.

The same release states that the test lasts 120 minutes and has three sections in this order: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Ability. Each section has its own 40 minutes. A candidate cannot leave a section for another and then return. The test is in English. A mock of the screen is promised on the CAT website; this practice test is not that mock.

The 2026 press release and information bulletin do not state how many questions are asked or how they are marked. The last test, on 30 November 2025, had 68 questions: 24 in VARC, 22 in DILR and 22 in QA, each worth 3 marks (204 in all). Multiple-choice questions have four options: 3 for a right answer and a deduction of 1 for a wrong one. Typed answers, often called non-MCQ, score 3 when right and 0 when wrong. A blank scores 0. That is the pattern this practice test follows. The 2025 VARC block was 16 reading questions and 8 verbal questions (2 summaries, 2 paragraph completions, 2 odd sentences and 2 paragraph jumbles). DILR was five sets, two of 5 questions and three of 4, half of them typed. QA was 14 multiple-choice and 8 typed.

A scorecard reports a scaled score for each section and an overall scaled score, which is the sum of the three scaled scores, plus percentiles. The scaling description published for CAT 2024 uses the mean and standard deviation of raw scores in each session and the mean raw score of the top 0.1% of candidates. Those figures differ every year, and a single sitting cannot be scaled with them. The score on this practice test is the raw sum of the section marks, not a scaled score and not a percentile.
